Interactive Lobby Installation

For The Blue-Sky Boys, I conceived and arranged an interactive lobby installation designed to extend the world of the play beyond the stage and invite audiences to engage in it with their community. Drawing from my dramaturgical research packet, I recruited and collaborated with visual artist Julia Hornsby and local astronomer Kaya Lewis to transform the lobby into a space for exploration and discovery.

The installation invited patrons to engage in a variety of ways, from viewing the moon through Lewis’ telescope demonstration to exploring a table of educational materials to handing out zines about the stars and planets, which Lewis designed and I printed and assembled for distribution. As audiences entered the theater, they encountered a series of framed digital panels featuring Hornsby’s original character illustrations and mock-ups, which I collaged with archival images, documentation, and research from the production.

By transforming the lobby into an active space for curiosity, conversation, and participation, the installation became an extension of the production itself. It offered a point of entry for everyone who encountered it, whether or not they were attending the performance.
